while watching that horrible show, “wife swap” tonight. there was this super-radical teenager, who in my mind personafies everyone who is a middle-class activist. they are white, have low income jobs, and are usually second-hand literates. i use this as a generalization, because when looking at the sociology of their whole predicament, they just want something to rebel against.

these are not stupid people, they dont outwardly rebel against their parents. it would be a cut to their funds and way of life. so they badger everyone around them or within earshot with their regurgitations of crap that has feed to them through CNN, protests, hippie professors, whatever.

my problem here is that they have never really faced adversity themselves. they are usually white, do not live in an urban area, have never really ran with an “original thought”. again, please understand i am generalizing here.

they say they want “peace”. and that the war in iraq is because of oil. of course it’s over oil. let me give you an excerpt from a conversation i had with a “person like this”.

hippie: man, this war is bullshit. why dont we just leave them alone, and let them have their oil?

me: well, if we left them alone, they would tear their country apart and they would not be liberated as they are now. if we didn’t purchase their oil, they would have no export. we would essentially send them into poverty. we also cant be price gouged by them, or our economy would fall apart.

hippie: i ride a bike, i dont need their oil for gasoline.

me: those are some nice sneakers you have there. where did that rubber come from? that’s a really cool plastic button you have as well. did you know those are petroleum products?

hippie: …

me: oh, and do you eat? how do you think that food got here? by magic? it came on a truck. that uses oil.

hippie: you are such a typical republican. you dont know what’s really going on.

the weird part? i dont even vote. never registered. my wife doesn’t vote either. and that’s her choice.

lets go back to where i said they dont have an original idea in their heads. the “peace sign”, as depicted below was actually designed in britain in 1958 by a commercial designer for the “Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament”. we even stole the logo.

peace.jpg

the logo was designed to depict a Semaphore signal for “N” and “D”. respectively, for it’s original intent. it’s resemblance to the anarchy symbol was not an accident either. there are several other theories about what it has come to represent, such as a broken cross, mocking the crucifix. then there is the camp that believes it comes from “Nero’s Cross” which represents satanism. the best one though, is that it is the inversion of an “Elhaz” rune, which would reverse it’s meaning. making it from ‘life’ to ‘death’. but uh, that rune actually means “elk”. as in the mammal. giant deer-looking thing. you know what i’m talking about? well, here is the article from the straight dope in support of my digging.

no, i do not have a problem with people who are liberal. or “open minded”. i think i’m kinda open minded. i wo uldn’t call myself liberal, for fear of my parents literally disowning me. it annoys me that people are so “open-minded” their brains spilled out and they cant think for themselves. they might as well just sit around and listen to scary AM radio shows about how the world is coming to an end.

oh, and for the record. the peace sign was designed by Gerald Holtom. and then brought the states by a freshman from the University of Chicago by the name of Philip Altbach. who bought a bag of the “chicktrack” buttons while studying abroad and brought them back home and talked Student Peace Union into making their own and selling them for profit. ahhh. capitalism at it’s best. i wonder if they had migrant workers make them?

ok, i feel better now.
