they suck my ass. they record in a native MCMpeg-2 format and it’s Dolby Ac3 audio to boot… ok, so i’m geeking here. let me break it down for you guys. i got a new hard drive video camera. the newest sony one. the way it records, it is pretty much made for people to shoot video, and burn it directly to a DVD. no thought, no editing. nothing. Adobe Elements supports the audio, but not premier or aftereffects. none of the Sony editing suites support it, and i will be damned if i have to do more than three steps in a process. so, that being said, it’s going back to bestbuy and i’m gonna have to live with their measly selection of miniDV until they come up with a decent solution that you can actually do something with.
go get the JVC you say? no. their optics suck, no docking station, no IEEE 1394, and the nightshot is crap. they should have stuck to making speakers in the early 90’s.
let me say this though, the camera is super-lightweight and when you do direct playback in Media Player, it looks AWESOME. of course, that’s all you can do with it. Windows Movie Maker cant even import the video. that is how much of teh suck it is. i’ve got this big video project now, looming over my head where i have promised a completed DVD and i already shot the entire thing on the HD cam, only to my chagrin that i cant do shit with it. soooo, i’m gonna have to go reshoot the whole ordeal tomorrow night until about 9pm and THEN start editing. yes, i am pissed about this. mainly at myself for not doing enough research. when i started looking around for a solution to my plight, i noticed that no one gave a good review of this camera. NO WHERE. everyone bagged on the same problem i was having. so i guess i kindof asked for it.
