so tonight i went to a Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers show @ the wormydog in bricktown. for those of you who are not in the know, remember that band “the refreshments”? (they wrote and performed the theme song for King of the Hill). anyway, this is them, now. they were amazing. probably the best show i’ve been to this year. given, it’s only march. but i dont think i will see a better show for awhile.

i actually ended up getting to talk with Roger after the show outside their tourbus and comparing notes on political views. immigration, views on dehumanization, this guy personafies everything i wanted to be growing up. people use a phrase like that lightly, but i seriously wanted to be a musician, fighting the good fight. but i found out i was tone deaf one horrible day in front of the piano with my brother. he delivered the news like a morose doctor, telling me i had cancer. except without the bedside manner.

“sean, if a musical note was water. you couldn’t hit it if you fell out of a boat.”. he says to me.

so, here i am. writing here. where most people just end up in the gallery anyway.

back to the review of the show, totally awesome. the wormydog is a pretty decent venue for the price and it’s well located. personally, i would like to see a bit of a more acoustic type set. where roger takes a bit of time to give background and explain some of the songs and his inspiration when writing them. a storytellers type setting if you will. we got to talk about all of the mexico references in his music and “the border” and how it’s more of a metaphor. trust me, go back and listen to all of the tracks you have and you will see alot of his stuff in an entire new light.

all in all, if you EVER have a chance to see them. GO. you will not be dissapointed.

oh, and mary and i went to the OKC zoo today. well, there was some cool stuff. and some not so cool stuff. there were parts that actually made me sad. how docile the animals were, and how people pester and badger the animals to get them to “do something”. i kinda wish they would let them in the cages if they wanted and let the darwinian effect take place. there are images in the gallery of both things, so take a look. if you were at the show, put your two cents in the comments.
