:: Nova on Western

Last night we went to Nova on North Western. the clean lines, the ambience and the the service was truly delightful. One of the proprietors, John Paul was walking around, asking people if everything was fine, how things tasted, etc. Wade, one of the partners and people in with Deep Fork who is also part of Nova to my understanding. of course, took super care of us. he always does whenever he's involved. he maintains a standard. I think we tried every appetizer on the menu. The Ravioli was AMAZING. very light, but quite tasty. I didn't even get near the shrimp. but apparently it was good, because by the time i wrangle another fork and wiped my mouth from the ravioli, it was gone. the potato wheels (a personal standby of mine) were awesome, with a plethora of stuff to dip them in. i didn't know what some of them were, nor could i pronounce them, but still. good. i ended up having the trout. i made a happy plate. i have this thing with food, if you've ever eaten with me, you'll know what i'm talking about. i cant even list everything out. it's just that certain things have to be a certain way. and they met those requests without batting an eye. it's service like this that sets them apart from any of the chain resturaunts, who act all put out when i ask for an entree with no seasoning, or sauce. or a family owned establishment that tries to coerce me into just "trying" it the way it is with all that extra shit on there that makes the plate look too busy. it's my damn dinner. i'm paying for it. just make it the way i ask, ok? regardless. this was never a concern last night at nova.

at around 10:30 a DJ friend of ours, Control-C walks in with all his gear. we're like, dude. are you about to play? he starts to setup right there in the front of the resturaunt. VERY cool. it's not often when a resturaunt has "live entertainment" and it's not a shitty cover band, that hey have a DJ that doesn't just play CD's. hanging out there too long will of course have me perusing lighting catalogs looking for some new way to light my apartment. if you havent been there, the FIRST thing to look at is the little lights in the floor. VERY cool. the next thing, of course, is the bar. the ONLY thing that i can say that didn't completely meet my standards was that we had to go outside to smoke. of course, other people probably find that actually nice. but i'm lazy. and it was cold. let me also point out that while we were outside smoking, a limo pulled up and i swear at least twenty girls came pouring out. watching all the guys heads, you would swear we were at a tennis match. all in all, i would highly recommend this place for a date or a bunch of friends to go out to dinner. there is valet, they are actually courteous. the cooking staff is superb, they are actually presentable and speak english. the management is courteous and hospitable.
